Summer 2016

What I Learned

Today was my last day at my first “big girl” job. I’m not sure if I am happy or sad about it. I learned a lot about other people and the grown up world during my short time there.

Here’s what I learned:

  1. Do your work.
    • I know this seems obvious, but you would be surprised how many people do absolutely nothing.
  2. Be kind.
    • Again, seems obvious, but the nicer you are to others the more friends you will make and the work environment will improve. The less awkward silence, the better.
  3. Take interest and try new things.
    • Some jobs are really boring, I understand that. However, you don’t have to just take interest in just what you’re doing at work, but the people and places around you. Try to learn about the people you work with and start conversations; it is a lot more fun with friends! Find new restaurants you have never heard of or stores you’ve never visited.
  4. Drink coffee.
  1. Bring snacks.
    • Necessity.
  2. Take naps (if possible).
    • This could be against the rules, but if you can take a quick nap during break, do it. I took a lot of naps in my car this summer.
  3. Participate.
    • If your office has activities during the day, like mine had a carnival for charity, you might as well go, have fun, and help a good cause. Sometimes, there could be prizes available– we were able to win E.O.s (early outs or paid time off) or coupons for local restaurants.

The dunking booth was fun for me. . .not sure if it was for him!
  4. Appreciate everything.
    • As I finish my first full-time “big girl” job, I’ve realized the importance of finding a career that I am interested in, so work won’t be work. Even if the job is not something you would want to do for the rest of life, try to appreciate the opportunity, the skills you learned, and the friends you made.

Thankful for all the friends I made.

  1. My first job was the role of being an assistant delivery boy, delivering flowers and parcels for my mother while she drove around to the destinations. Needless to say, it was fun getting so many ppl smiling when they see me bringing them their Bouquets or packages,

Did I mention that I was around the age of 7 then? 🙂
